Gangneung City Confirmed as Host for 2024 UNCPGA Meeting

Gangneung City has been confirmed as the location for the 2024 meeting of the United Nations Council of Presidents of the General Assembly (UNCPGA).

The UNCPGA meeting, scheduled to take place for three days in October 2024, is expected to be attended by over 100 individuals, including the leadership of the UNCPGA, the president and secretary-general of the UN, diplomats from various countries, and former UN ambassadors.

As part of the UNCPGA meeting, an International Cybersecurity Symposium will be held along with a hackathon competition with the participation of white hat hackers from around the world. This event will serve as an opportunity for Gangneung City to explore new avenues for growth and provide a significant opportunity for local youth.

In addition, as a prelude to the General Assembly, a "Gangneung Night" event will be organized to promote Gangneung's culture through traditional performances and various cultural programs. During the General Assembly period, activities such as a coffee festival and cultural heritage night tours are planned to introduce Gangneung's outstanding culture.

By hosting this official event for an international organization, Gangneung City aims to enhance its global recognition, promote active international exchange and cooperation, develop the MICE industry, and revitalize local tourism, thus laying a solid foundation for becoming one of the world's top 100 tourism cities.

The UNCPGA is an international consultative body composed of former UN General Assembly presidents and is actively involved in supporting UN activities, providing advice, and addressing international issues. Currently, it has 29 members, and from October 2022 to October 2025, it is operating under the leadership of Han Seung-soo, a former prime minister of South Korea.
