- The fragrant wine festival set to unfold at Wolhwa Street from November 2nd (Thu) over a period of three days -

   ​In October, Gangneung was filled with the scent of coffee, but in November, it the gentle aroma of wine will fill Wolhwa Street, presenting another side of Gangneung to its residents and tourists.

   ​Under the theme ‘Sea of Gangneung and People’, the ‘2023 Gangneung Wine Festival’ will take place from November 2nd (Thu) to 4th (Sat) over 3 days, gradually immersing the audience in the allure of wine with its diverse attractions and entertainment that will fillWolhwa Street.

       On the 2nd (Thu) at 4 pm, a giant ‘Gangneung Beongkle* Wine Sculpture’ will be unveiled to mark the beginning of the festival, complemented by special live performances by musicians and a rich array of foods to be enjoyed with wine at the traditional market and Wolhwa Night Market. *Beongkle: Gangwon dialect for ‘grow’.

       ​During the festival, a special tasting zone called the ‘Wine Lounge’ will be operated where over 60 types of wines can be freely tasted and purchased, and eco-friendly wine-related experience programs are also planned.

     On the 3rd (Fri) at 7 pm, ‘Sunset Wine Hour in Wolhwa Street’ will be held, allowing participants to receive recommendations from experts and discover wines that pair well with Gangneung’s specialties. In addition, the ‘Challenge! Wine Golden Bell’ with a wine quiz will take place on the 3rd (Fri) and 4th (Sat) in which the final winner will receive a prize.

       ​Additionally, programs promising more fun such as a social media sharing event, wine purchase receipt events, and a receipt event where same-day receipts from Gangneung are entered into a draw for souvenirs, are all prepared.

   ​ In the meantime, all attendees need to do to enjoy the festival is to wear wristbands after showing their ID at the entrance and bring their own wine glasses or purchase them on site.

   A representative from Gangneung-si said, “We have prepared various programs so that people can enjoy the wine festival, which is being held for the second time this year in an even more lavish fasion so we ask for everyone’s interest in the event.” The representative added, “We will strive to popularize wine culture so that the wine industry of Gangneung can grow and become established as a sustainable signature event.”
