GANGNEUNG CITY ENG - 솔향강릉

     As a result of integrated development with the surrounding area, Jeongdong-Simgok Port Sea Fan Road is reborn as an attractive space and is ready to emerge as a resort and healing tourism destination.

     ​Gangneung City will host a completion ceremony for the Jeongdong-Simgok Port Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project on Dec. 21 (Thu) at 2 p.m. at Jeongdongjin Port, with the participation of approximately 100 officials and village residents.

    ​The event will kick off with a report on the project's progress, followed by the presentation of appreciation plaques, welcome and commemorative speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a walk along the newly built Sea Fan Road.

    ​Launched as a competitive project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project aims to modernize the essential infrastructure of underdeveloped fishing villages and revitalize the region by reflecting the unique characteristics of fishing and port areas in the fisheries and tourism industries.

       ​The project was selected in December 2019 by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, has a total budget of 14.53 billion won, and has been implemented since 2020. It includes the △construction of coastal cliff roads, △maintenance of port infrastructure, and △improvement of the living environment.

       ​To foster innovative growth in the fishing villages through enhanced marine tourism, the existing Sea Fan Road was renovated and the coastal cliff road was extended by 640 meters from Simgok Port to Jeongdongjin Port, leading to the integrated development of the two fishing villages of Jeongdong and Simgok.

       ​Moreover, a 214-meter coastal walkway was built, along with optimal spaces such as observation, rest, and multipurpose plaza areas where visitors can enjoy the splendid scenery and linger briefly.

       Additionally, the project improved outdated port facilities by rebuilding the water breakwater, reinforcing the breakwaters, and repairing the fishermen's association offices. It also enhanced the living environment by extending drainage boxes and installing safety lighting.

    ​An official from Gangneung City said, "With the completion of this Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, the Sea Fan Road of Jeongdong-Simgok Port is expected to become a new resort and healing tourism attraction along the pristine East Coast, and we hope it will be a delightful experience for tourists to enjoy the beautiful coastal path."

    ​In 2021, Sodol-Orijin Port and in 2022, Yeongjin Port were selected for the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project to advance the revitalization of fishing villages.
