GANGNEUNG CITY ENG - 솔향강릉

- Gangneung’s first PR booth at the ITS America Conference 2024 in Arizona from April 22 to 25 -

      Gangneung City sent a delegation to North America to present its unique vision of an intelligent transportation system (ITS) for small and medium-sized cities in order to raise global awareness of the 2026 ITS World Congress set to be held in Gangneung and ensure its success.

      ​Gangneung’s PR booth was set up at the ITS America Conference & Expo 2024 held in Arizona, U.S.A. from April 22 (Mon) to 25 (Thu) in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and ITS Korea. This was the first time Gangneung City promoted the upcoming congress in North America.

      ​Hosted by ITS America, the ITS America Conference took place at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, under the theme of “Accelerating Digital Transformation.” It featured a variety of programs, including cutting-edge technology demonstrations, academic presentations, and booth exhibitions.

      ​With the operation of the PR booth, Gangneung City showcased the city’s ITS model, which is being built across the city center, to induce participation in the 2026 ITS World Congress among some 140 companies that attended the event and other related organizations in North America.

      ​Members of the delegation attended senior-level meetings with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), responsible for transportation policies in the United States, as well as ITS America, to discuss ways to successfully host the ITS World Congress in Arizona and Gangneung in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

      ​Gangneung presented its unique vision of ITS that can address issues faced by small and medium-sized cities related to the environment, safety, and population aging in a comprehensive manner and share policies and technologies with local ITS companies, thereby consolidating its status as a leading city for advanced mobility.

      ​An official from Gangneung City said, “By participating in the ITS America Conference, we will take the lead in bolstering our global image by sharing widely the ITS blueprint of Gangneung City, which is focused on improving the quality of life beyond solving transportation issues. […] We will lead the ITS World Congress in Gangneung to success by integrating advanced mobility policies and technologies based on active exchanges with related organizations.”
