GANGNEUNG CITY ENG - 솔향강릉

 Gangneung City is offering local restaurants with QR code designs for foreign language menus in order to provide foreign tourists with information in foreign languages about unique local dishes for improved convenience.

 At the participating restaurants, their menus can be viewed by simply scanning the QR code on the menu without the need to install a mobile app. This allows presentation of a variety of information on the dishes including information on how to eat the food, whether it is vegan, and whether it contains any ingredients that cause allergies.

 The QR code menus will be available in Korean, English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and Japanese, providing multilingual support for dishes that may be unfamiliar to foreigners, making it more convenient for foreign tourists to order.

 150 restaurants (regular restaurants, restaurants at rest stops, and confectionery and bakery shops) in Gangneung City will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional applicants surpassing the quota will be selected according to whether they are restaurants designated by the municipality, the proportion of Korean dishes on the menu, and how long they have been in the business.

 The cost will be borne entirely by Gangneung City. The application form, which is available for download on the Gangneung City and public health center websites, must be filled out and submitted by June 28 (Fri) in person at the Hygiene and Sanitation Division on the third floor of the Gangneung City Public Health Center or by emailing the person in charge.

 An official from Gangneung City said, “With various international events scheduled to be held in Gangneung City, we are expecting to see an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting our city, and this project is expected to contribute to improving the quality of tourism in Gangneung by effectively delivering information about our local dishes and triggering interest.”
