GANGNEUNG CITY ENG - 솔향강릉

     ​- Leveraging International Institutions to Advance Gangneung City’s Culinary Culture and Sustainable Development Initiatives -

     Mayor Kim Hong-kyu of Gangneung attended the 16th Annual International Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) held in Braga, Portugal, from July 1st to July 5th.

     ​The delegation, led by Mayor Kim, began their participation by attending a presentation on the activities of the UCCN Secretariat. They also engaged in high-level roundtable discussions and contributed to drafting the Braga Manifesto, which outlines the network’s agenda post-2030.

     ​The Braga Manifesto (a resolution that reaffirms the importance of culture in sustainable development and urges local governments to establish concrete implementation strategies that integrate culture with policy) has received official support from Gangneung as a member of the UCCN.

     ​In addition, Mayor Kim participated in a forum consisting of mayors from various cities, where they discussed detailed implementation plans for the Braga Manifesto. Topics included the development of culture-based local policies, strategies for attracting investment to build sustainable development cities, and educational strategies to nurture future generations.

     ​Mayor Kim Hong-kyu stated, “Through our continued involvement in the UCCN, Gangneung will enhance its culinary culture and strengthen its capacity for sustainable development with culture at the forefront.”
