- Promoting the 2026 ITS World Congress and ITS Policies and Projects in Local Communities (Eup, Myeon, Dong) -

​​ Gangneung City is initiating a public outreach campaign to promote awareness of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) policies and projects. The goal is to guarantee the effective implementation of the 2026 ITS World Congress by involving citizens and garnering their support for the smooth execution of this major international event.

 Starting from Sacheon-myeon last month and continuing through early September, city officials are conducting visits to all 21 local administrative areas (eup, myeon, dong). The campaign involves providing educational sessions to community leaders about the ITS World Congress and the overall ITS infrastructure, with the goal of building public consensus.

 The city is committed to raising awareness and understanding of the current ITS infrastructure, the Future Mobility Complex Center, and autonomous vehicles, recognizing that these innovative technologies may be new and unfamiliar to many residents. These explanations are tailored to be accessible to the public.

 Using the hosting of the ITS World Congress as a catalyst, Gangneung City is presenting its vision of becoming a leader in mobility innovation. By showcasing practical applications of advanced transportation technologies that improve convenience and safety, the city aims to increase public familiarity and appreciation of ITS.

 In addition, the city is sharing updates on essential facilities such as convention centers and exhibition halls. It also outlines the expected economic benefits, the enhancement of international stature, and the potential growth of the MICE industry following the congress, thereby reinforcing public support.

 The 2026 World Congress will feature exhibitions, technology demonstrations, academic conferences, and cultural programs. The event is designed to engage both experts and the general public, including tourists. Ongoing promotional efforts aim to encourage broad citizen participation and cooperation.

 A city official stated, “Public understanding and support are crucial for successfully hosting the 2026 ITS World Congress. We will continue our promotional activities to build consensus on ITS policies and enhance our capabilities to lead the congress with our citizens successfully.”

 The 2026 ITS World Congress will occur on October 19–23, 2026, at Gangneung Olympic Park, under the theme “Beyond Mobility, Connected World.” It is expected to be the largest international convention and exhibition in the ITS field, with participation from around 90 countries and over 200,000 attendees.​
