- The Korean Society of Intelligent Transport Systems 2024 Fall Conference from October 24 to 26 -
With the 2026 ITS World Congress just two years away, Gangneung City is preparing to host the congress with success by building a state-of-the-art transportation system and key facilities, in addition to creating a solid network to attract related events.
The Korean Society of Intelligent Transport Systems 2024 Fall Conference was held in Gangneung City from Thursday, November 24 to Saturday, November 26, under the theme of “ITS, Connected World” in line with the theme of the 2026 ITS World Congress, “Beyond Mobility, Connected World.”
The conference attracted some 700 participants from ITS and mobility-related organizations and companies as well as professors, researchers, and those majoring in the related fields of study. The participants discussed the results of local governments’ efforts to build intelligent transportation systems and the direction for future development as well as the latest technologies and trends, including technologies to improve transportation safety using AI data, new transportation energy technologies for broader applications of eco-friendly ITS, and self-driving patrol services.
Mayor Kim Hong-kyu personally attended the opening ceremony at the Lakai Sandpine Convention Center on Thursday, October 24 at 4:30 p.m. to welcome ITS and mobility experts to Gangneung and discuss cooperation with the Korean Society of ITS, Korea Road Traffic Authority, and Korea Transport Institute to successfully host the ITS World Congress.
Gangneung operated a booth during the conference to share information about the convention center, urban information center, and ITS infrastructure being built ahead of the ITS World Congress, the world’s largest academic exhibition in the field of transportation systems, and showcase an ITS model for small and medium-sized cities developed by Gangneung.
With the Korean Society of Transportation 2024 Fall Conference held in September and the Korean Society of ITS 2024 Fall Conference in October in Gangneung, the east coast city is expected to continue to strengthen the academic foundation that is a pillar of the ITS World Congress.
Gangneung is also continuing to attract academic conferences, which will provide an opportunity for the development of the local MICE industry, with the hosting of various academic conferences, exhibitions, and corporate workshops, which will in turn leads to the revitalization of the local economy.
A Gangneung City official said, “In order to successfully host the 2026 ITS World Congress in Gangneung, we will make sure to deliver excellent exhibitions for visitors to experience cutting-edge technology firsthand and strengthen the academic foundation for people to see the blueprint for the future of transportation with their own eyes. […] We will do our best to emerge as the center of advanced mobility and drive the development of the local MICE industry that will revitalize our local economy.”
