Infinite Possibilities of Gangneung where Business,Culture and Tourism meet.
Gangneung’s Gyeongpo Beach has been selected as an ‘Outstanding Beach’ for 2024 by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Each year the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries select outstanding beaches that have enhanced their value as tourism resources and contribute to attracting visitors through the development and implementation of year-round programs, as well as improving operational methods. This year, Gyeongpo, Haeundae and Samcheok beaches were selected to receive the award and prize money.
Gyeongpo Beach was highly praised for the innovative and safe operation of its facilities, including the Oribawi (‘Ori Rock’) diving platform, a 125m long seawater play facility (pontoon), a white sand children’s seawater pool, and a giant water slide.
In particular, the installation of the 125m seawater play facility, the nation’s largest, allowing the safe use of the Oribawi diving platform, and the east coast’s first night seawater pool for beating tropical nights, were well received.
In addition, the beach also maximized its appeal to vacationers by hosting various festivals such as the Beach Beer Festival, a national busking competition, and a Summer Festival.
Eom Geum-moon, head of Tourism Policy for Gangneung City, said, “Next year, we plan to expand facilities and programs to provide even more enjoyable and safe experiences than this year, and we will work ever harder to create the best beach in the country.”
