GANGNEUNG CITY ENG - 솔향강릉

Jeongdong-Simgok Badabuchae-gil, one of Gangneung’s representative tourist destinations, was selected in the ‘2025~2026 Korea Tourism Top 100’, announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, once again acknowledging its beauty and tourism value. 

 Now in its 7th edition, ‘Korea Tourism Top 100’ is a project to select Korea’s representative tourist destinations for domestic and overseas tourists every two years. 

 ‘Jeongdong-Simgok Badabuchae-gil’ is located in Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung City, and is the only coastal district in Korea (National Monument No. 437) where visitors can observe crustal movements from 2.5 million years ago that reveal the secrets of the East Sea’s formation. Since its opening in 2017, it has become a popular tourist destination, attracting an average of over 800,000 visitors annually. 

 In 2024, the city extended the exploration trail from Jeongdong Port to Mongdol Beach (approximately 550m), creating a coastal terrace trail (Jeongdong Port to Simgok Port) with a total length of 3.01 km. Along the trail, ‘Café Yunsul’ has been established, offering visitors a special rest area for their convenience and relaxation. 

 Kim Il-woo, Director of the Tourism Development Division, stated, “With Badabuchae-gil’s selection in Korea Tourism Top 100, we expect a positive impact on the local economy and tourism industry. We will do our best to provide visitors with the ultimate healing trekking course while also increasing demand for nearby attractions such as Sandglass Park, Unification Park, and the Heonwha-ro coastal driving course, offering a diverse range of experiences.”
