Gangneung City will engage in full-scale promotional activities to successfully host the 2026 ITS World Congress, while identifying global trends, seeking domestic and international cooperation through expanded exchanges, and striving to strengthen its capabilities as a leading mobility city.
The city will participate in the '2023 ITS International Seminar' held at the InterContinental COEX in Seoul on September 4 (Monday), present its unique 'small and medium-sized city ITS model' to overseas ITS experts and related businessmen, and announce its preparations for the Gangneung ITS World Congress 2026.
This international seminar will be attended by 14 ITS experts from 8 countries*, including Hong Kong and Japan’s ITS Asia-Pacific Board of Directors, and over 100 people including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Gangneung City, Suwon City, the Korea ITS Association, the Korea Expressway Corporation, and related companies.
* Hong Kong, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand
Through the seminar, Gangneung City will present a 'new paradigm for small and medium-sized cities' that can directly show how the traffic situation can be improved and stability can be secured by implementing cutting-edge ITS technology on all roads in the city, and will publicize the strength of the World Congress in Gangneung, which is different from existing congresses held in large cities.
In particular, as it is expected that about 200,000 people from approximately 90 countries will visit Gangneung to attend the World Congress, the city plans to transform the entire city into one huge exhibition hall by actively utilizing the rich cultural and tourism resources to organize various programs that all can experience.
In addition, it is expected that the existing Olympic heritage and the large-scale convention center to be built within the Olympic Park, combined with the new groundbreaking transportation system, will significantly expand the base of the MICE industry and accelerate its leap forward toward becoming an international tourist city.
Hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and supervised by the Korea ITS Association, the '2023 ITS International Seminar' promotes the Gangneung World Congress and the Suwon Asia-Pacific ITS Forum, and will be held from September 4 (Monday) to September 6 (Wednesday) to promote the Gangneung World Congress and the Suwon Asia-Pacific Congress, identify trends in the ITS field, support exports of related domestic companies, and establish continuous cooperative relationships.
