Haslla Art World is a cultural space made up of the Sculpture Park, Modern Art Gallery,
and the Pinocchio Marionette Museum. Its name, “Haslla,” is the old name for Gangneung.
The complex stands in harmony with the beautiful nature of the city.
Visitors can enjoy the works that blend into the beauty of the surrounding nature,
especially the open view of the sea.
After passing through the ticket office, one finds oneself in the Abigi Gallery,
which showcases art installations and contemporary art.
The Modern Art Gallery is made up of two floors and one basement, organized into three spaces according to themes.
The stairs that go underground from Abigi Gallery already impress visitors with their unique spatial design.
Modern Art Gallery I features kinetic art installations, sculptures,
and other art installations that transform the entire space into a museum of art installations.
It is notable for providing a space for visitors to take part in the making of art through works
such as those that require the visitor to play or take pictures to complete them.
Gallery II features spaces such as those dedicated to four art installations
and another dedicated to a work that utilizes mirrors.
Go through the tunnel to find yourself being drawn into space.
After the tunnel, you can find Gallery III, which showcases the Haslla Art World’s collection from around the world.
It is a space where today’s world coexists with humanity’s history.
Don’t forget the photo area with a massive Pinocchio statue.
Go down to the 3rd basement floor to find the Pinocchio Marionette Museum,
which will take you back to your childhood.
It features works that reinterpret classical works through the lens of contemporary art,
such as the Mona Lisa with Pinocchio’s nose.
The museum also features “Maribots,” which are robotic marionette dolls that move automatically
when one steps on top of the footprints on the floor.
Press the button on the massive marionette sculpture to control its joints.
These automata and marionette robots bring together engineering and art to create a world of fairytales
reimagined through contemporary art.
Go past the Skywalk to the ground floor to find the 110,000 ㎡ Sculpture Park.
The Park’s sculptures stand among the mountains and the sea.
Its open-air nature makes the sculptures appear differently depending on the light, wind, and weather.
Haslla Art World purposefully omits any detailed descriptions of the works being displayed
so that the visitors themselves can come up with their own ideas and interpretations from their standpoints.
Let your mind guide you through the works of art and nature.
